#Cranesforcovid – Brighton covid memorial at The Spire in East Brighton

It was an honour to have been asked by Dr Christa Beesley of Wellsbourne Healthcare CIC in East Brighton, to create this memorial for the people lost to covid. I wanted to create the memorial in the style of a murmuration, just like the starlings flight over the West pier. I felt this would produce a beautiful visual experience.

This piece now has personal resonance with me. As I was installing the work, I received news that my mum was in a critical condition in hospital. As the installation opened the next day and the birds took flight, my mother sadly passed away. Without knowing at the time, this memorial for me, is now for my mum.

‘Although This is a memorial to those we have lost, it is moreover a symbol of the permanence of love and a reminder that death is just a temporary flight into a different realm.’
